If you love the look and feel of plants in your home, but worry about the upkeep because you have a busy schedule and lifestyle, then low maintenance are more your speed! There are several amazing houseplants to choose from that are totally do-able for busy people, like you and me!

Easy, Beginner Friendly Plants

Our go-to recommendations for easy, beginner-friendly plants are pothos, sansevierias (commonly known as ‘snake plants’), and ZZ plants. Although each of these thrive and enjoy bright, indirect light, these plant varieties can also tolerate and manage in lower light areas if necessary.

Pothos

Pothos is a classic plant that never goes out of style. Popular varieties include golden, green queen, pothos n’joy, cebu blue, marble, and snow queen. Pothos plants are great at communicating with you to let you know if they need to be watered. Perky leaves indicate a hydrated and happy plant, whereas droopy leaves are a sign that the plant is ready for a thorough watering. Planting pothos in self-watering wall planters is an easy and cost-effective way to create a lush living wall!

Sansevierias

Sansevierias, commonly known as snake plants, are beautiful for their sculptural shape and handsome clean lines. Large sansevierias look amazing as floor plants, while short and small sansevierias give off succulent vibes. Popular varieties include laurentii, robusta, zeylanica, moonshine and whale fin. Sansevierias can go a long time between waterings, approximately 3-4 weeks, and prefer for their soil to completely dry out. Snake plants can tolerate low light conditions, just remember not to water them too frequently if they are placed in low light areas.

ZZ plants

Zamioculcus zamiifolia, also known as the ZZ plant, is the easiest houseplant there is! These plants are built to store water in their thick stems and rhizome filled root systems, which may give you as much as one month between waterings! Wait for the soil to completely dry out. ZZ plants are commonly known to tolerate low light, but can be placed in bright, indirect light as well. In low light conditions, these plants are slow growers. The lucky ZZ plant with its rounded leaves in a less common and beautiful choice!

Low Maintenance Plants 2.0

If you have already been successful with these low maintenance, beginner friendly houseplants then I highly recommend philodendron, hoyas, and peperomia as other low maintenance plant families to explore!
